Cụm từ dành cho người mình yêu
Bạn có bao giờ thắc mắc, liệu còn có lời tỏ tình nào ngọt ngào mà và cũng ý nghĩa ngoài câu nói giản dị “I love you” không? Tất nhiên là có rồi, nếu thành ngữ Việt Nam có câu “Má em hồng trong đôi mắt anh” thì người Anh cũng có câu văn hoa không kém là “You are the apple of my eye”.
Câu thành ngữ Be the apple of one’s eye rất hay được sử dụng trong các tác phẩm văn học khi các tác gia muốn cho lời văn của mình trở nên chau chuốt và hình tượng hơn. Câu thành ngữ này dùng để chỉ người hoặc vật mà được ai đó yêu quý nhất. Ví dụ bạn có thể nói:
- Everyone knew they would get married someday. She is the apple of his eye. (Mọi người đều biết họ sẽ làm đám cưới. Cô ấy là người anh ấy yêu nhất mà).
- You got me the bracelet I wanted. (Anh đã tặng em cái vòng mà em thích). - Yes, I knew it was the apple of your eye. (Ừ, anh biết đó là thứ mà em thích nhất mà).
| Có thể bạn thắc mắc về nguồn gốc của câu thành ngữ này. Trước hết, bạn cần phải biết rằng từ “apple” ở đây không có nghĩa là quả táo mà có nghĩa là “con ngươi” của mắt. Thành ngữ này đã từng xuất hiện trong kinh thánh và trong tác phẩm nổi tiếng “Giấc mơ đêm mùa hạ” của đại văn hào Shakespeare. Trước đó, nó đã xuất hiện vào khoảng đầu thế kỷ thứ chín. |
Thời điểm đó, người ta nghĩ rằng con ngươi của mắt là một chất rắn và đã gọi nó bằng cái tên “apple” (quả táo) vì lúc đó với họ, táo là vật có hình tròn phổ biến nhất. Mãi sau này, khi ngôn ngữ phát triển hơn thì từ con ngươi (pupil) mới xuất hiện. Tuy nhiên, câu thành ngữ này đã được sử dụng quá lâu và thành thói quen, do đó, người ta không còn muốn thay đổi nó nữa.
Vậy tại sao nếu ai đó được ví như con ngươi của mắt người khác thì có nghĩa là người đó được yêu quý và trân trọng? Vì đơn giản là khi trong mắt ai đó chỉ có hình ảnh của một người thì đó chính là người được yêu quý và trân trọng nhất.
Câu nói tình tứ này đã trở nên rất nổi tiếng và trở thành lời trong lời một bài hát: “You are the apple of my eye. That’s why I will always be with you.” (Anh yêu em vô cùng. Đó là lý do vì sao anh luôn ở bên em).
